Moscow Conference (1943) – British Pathé

Description: The 1943 Moscow Conference

The first part of the film shows the Soviet Foreign Minister, Molotov, as he welcomes the US Secretary of State, Cordell Hull, and Britain’s Foreign Minister, Anthony Eden at Moscow Airport. The second part shows the actual signing of the Moscow Declaration by Molotov, Hull, and Eden. What is remarkable about the footage is that China’s signature and participation in the conference is neither shown nor mentioned. We only catch sight of Fu when he is shaking hands with the three foreign ministers after they have, all four, signed the Declaration. For the full story of China’s bid for ‘Big Four’ status, and participation at the conference, see Fu Bingchang’s diary entries in October 1943.
